Tourism in Munich

Here are a ordered list of every monument you should see if you have only 1 day in Munich. You should do that tour by bike which is very pleasant in Munich. Without a bike, no chance to do that except if you take a “ricksha”, this kind of bicycle-taxi which are usually waiting for you on Marienplatz (see in the list). There is also some “Call a bike” system, you just need a credit card number

So here is the travel you may do :

1. Alt Peter : The oldest church of the city, which was here before the creation of the city. You can go to the top of the bell tower. That’s sportive, but the sight at the top worth it.
2. Marienplatz : Center place of the city. (Altes und Neues Rathaus) (mairies, vue de l’extérieur)
3. Viktualienmarkt with its “Maibaum” (the “May tree” or Maypole) the historical market of Munich, 22.000m² still full of traditional, good food shops.
4. Schrannenhalle is a ancient covered market. You just have to look it from far away (for the top of the Alt Peter bell tower specially) for its architecture and roof, but inside is just restaurants and shops.
5. Hofbräuhaus : The most well known “bierhalle” which was built by William V from Bavaria for its troops.Full of tourists but also typically dressed bavarians.
6. Maximilianstraße : The big rich road of Munich, with all luxury shops and luxury cars.
7. Nationaltheater : the official place of the Baviarian State Opera.
8. Residenz : the residence of Bavarians kings and Dukes

10. … Feldherrnhalle (Field Marshall’s Hall) which is loggia with 2 bavarian commanders. It was the place of an putsch attempt of Hitler.
11. … Theatinerkirche ( XVII century Italian style ) known to be a gift to thank for the born of Prince Max Emanuel.
12. Hofgarten : garden with italian renaissance style. You should cross it in diagonal and see and go through the “Hofgartentemple” of the Hofgarten
13. Staatskanzlei : official building where sits the Bavarian ministre, nice to see.
14. Haus der Kunst : Art House, created as Third Reich’s first monumental propaganda building.
15. PrinzKarlPalais : small palais neo-classic, nice to see.
16. Englisher Garten you will feel that it is big but it’s much bigger. You will see in this park :
17. … Japanishes Teehaus : a Japanese tea house on an small island, very cute.
18. … Eisbach a river where all tourist stop to see surfers on a steady wave !
19. … Monopteros : a sort of kiosk with greek style columns.
20. … Biergarten am Chinesischen Turm : the best known biergarden where you can drink one litter of beer, listening to traditional bavarian bands.
21. Universität : the University building which is quite monumental.
22. Siegestor: the Victory door, kind of “Arc de Triomphe” that you can cross.
23. Ludwigstraße
24. End finally, the 3 Pinakothek : Alte (the old one),  Neues (the new) and der Modern (the modern). If you are not tired, try the “Neues” for “impressionists” style paintings or the Alte for christianic art. The Modern is a more risky choice.
